Bannock

Josette mentions two recipes when they visit her great aunt in St. Boniface.

There are several similar recipes. Here are two you may wish to try.

Bannock

5 c. Flour
3 tsp. baking powder
2 T. bacon dripping if desired
(add with water)
1 to 3 c. water needed for the consistency desired

Measure the flour into a large bowl. Add the baking powder and mix well. Form a hole in the center of the flour and pour in a small amount of the water to mix to a consistence of bread dough. Let rise 1 hour. Shape in desired pieces and deep fat fry or use fry pan to fry the dough. Makes enough to feed ten people.
